And if you'd prefer to buy the complete Llama sewing kit it's here
Sew your very own felt Llama character from the Stitch Club Shelfie range. Shelfies are designed to sit independently on a flat surface and are great fun to make. The sewing process is an enjoyable hand sewing experience, and the result is a soft and tactile felt friend who will grace any room.
This project is beginner friendly, and the detailed sewing guides provide helpful suggestions for alternative methods and stitches depending on your level of skill and ambition. There is even a whole page dedicated to tips for helping your child sew a Shelfie (we suggest age 12+)
The large Llama in the photos was sewn by my 14 year old daughter.
The project can be simplified by sewing a 'flat' version which uses the main front piece for the back as well: you can see this effect in photo of the Hare Shelfie where the Lilac Hare is a flat version. The Hare Shelfie pattern is available separately.
This pattern is a digital download providing two documents packed with guidance. The main Shelfie manual covers: types of felt and where to purchase; embroidery thread use and care; sewing needles; pattern transfer and cutting methods; embroidery stitches and felt sewing techniques.
You will need access to a printer to print two pattern pages. The instructions cover eleven pages but if you don't wish to print them you can view them on a digital device.
The pattern includes a full list of supplies and quantities, but in brief you will need:
Felt in white, light brown, black, and some coloured scraps
Embroidery threads colours to match felt
Sharp scissors, pins and a hand sewing needle
Around 50g toy stuffing
Height of finished Llama: 22cms
The pattern also includes a smaller version
